This is a very rare image, let me explain why. I've been meaning to photograph this old hotel in the back parts of Silverton for quite a while. A friend owns this property, which has also been used for various Australian films. It is iconic as Australia gets. the hotel is that remote if you didn't follow the tracks you wont be coming home soon. I met Phil at the Silverton Hotel, I was on route from South Australia where i had been shooting. It was a far drive to the hotel.
After viewing the location I decided to stay that afternoon and prepare to photograph. It was now or never.
The most fascinating thing happened on this sunset. The rubble from a dust storm gave the abandoned hotel a whole new feel, and made a great talking point. Sadly as far as I know, the hotel came to grief with another dust storm a few months later, and no longer stands. Iconic, i love it.
